Why Vote Yes?

What's wrong with the Galvin?

The school building is past its functional life.

  • Major upgrades required for all architectural systems and finishes, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Not compliant with current building codes and accessibility requirements.
  • Lack of ventilation, and classrooms without windows.
  • Electrical capacity at Maximum level throughout the entire building.

Environment not conducive for learning.

  • Inadequate educational space and classroom overcrowding.
  • Science, arts, and special education areas are severely limited and outdated.
  • Modern technology virtually non-existent.

What's the answer?

The Town and State propose a new middle school built on the same site that includes:

  • An educational facility designed for 1,070 students in Grades 5-8.
  • Efficient 3 floor academic wing.
  • New auditorium, gym, and ball fields available for community use.
  • A $34 million state grant to help Wakefield fund roughly half the project cost.

What's the cost?

  • Total Project Cost: $74,646,709.
  • State Funding with contingencies: $34,689,576.
  • State reimbursing 54.67% of eligible project costs.
  • Town Share: $38,584,333.
  • Projected cost per household is $188 per year, based on a house valued at $400,000 for a period of 25 years.
  • To calculate your cost, take your assessed home value and multiply by .00047.
